The gpa and the sat scores are used as filters by ivy league universities to assess applications, therefore anything less than 3.5 will get you eliminated even if you gave a sat score which is v good , as each of the criteria for admission is important

The first step of the short listing is simple to understand as the elite schools use the sat and gpa to filter out the students with outstanding scores. Those that donot have the basic requirements are eliminated in the first round itself as they follow a policy of “risk minimisation “.
